This painting began as a painting of the white orchid tree.

I worked from many, many studies from life.

By painting this watercolor painting, the experience was one of enlightenmentIt was a 9 month endeavor, everyday, for 9 months.

I spent 2 months drawing the composition with a very hard, light, and very sharp pencil hardly detectable once painted.

Then using only 3 primary colors, I developed my palette which mixed right on the paper.

I also used Japanese sumi-e ink that I ground with water on a suzuri stone.

There is no white paint used in this painting, it is a transparent watercolor painting.

It took me a total of 9 months to paint this piece.
