CHANAKO, Avenue of the Giants

I went to see the giant Redwood Trees in California, created a compositional study, collected fallen bark, acorns, twigs, did a color studio and embarked on a ten year journey to paint this painting.  I had four babies in 4 1/2 years during this so I developed a personal philosophy called, "5 minutes a day."  Even if those minutes were spent thinking about my next move on this painting, it counted as an honest minute.  The minutes added up and this became my 10 year painting, 1980-1990.  This painting has many doves in it, symbolic of the Holy Spirit descending upon the Earth.
